New Year Success: “From your Eyes only”

Who would believe succeeding in a job interview was as simple as ‘looking right’, or finding love is down to the closeness of your partner’s eyes?

The unique new study, commissioned by Ultralase, revealed that aside from words, people are most likely to use a person’s eyes to read their inner-most thoughts and feelings (55%), above posture (22%), hand movements (16%) and complexion (2%) with 5% not even knowing where to start.

The results inspired the company to apply a little bit of science and enlist a duo of ‘Personologists’, Naomi Tickle and Richard Phelan – professional eye readers to you and me. They examined exactly what subtleties the ‘naked eye’ can communicate when people ditch their glasses, and crucially, how this can help us when it comes to achieving New Year’s resolutions, such as finding love or getting a new job.

Looking for Love

If your New Year’s Resolution is to look for love in 2010, then make sure you look to the eyes to assess your compatibility!

1. Asymmetric wide set eyes: indicates commitment, loyalty and tolerance – someone who will stick with you despite your bad habits.

As seen on Richard Branson, Elijah Wood

2. Close together eyes: indicates trust and discretion, a focus on detail – people with this trait do not like interruptions, if you’re running late on a date phone ahead!

As seen on Prince Charles, Ant & Dec, Sarah Harding

3. Deep set eyes: indicates lots of emotional baggage and a serious personality – make sure you tread carefully.

As seen on David Beckham, Cheryl Cole, Nicola Horlick (City Superwoman)

4. Large irises: very emotional, need constant reassurance – so make sure you keep telling them how good they look!

As seen on Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole

5. Covered eyelid: extremely analytical – be careful what you do or say as they may read heavily into it.

As soon on David Beckham, Nicola Horlick

6. Outer Corner of Eye lower than the inner corner: extremely observant of the smallest of moves or expressions – careful what you’re trying to hide.

As seen on Hugh Grant, Daniel Craig

7. Exposed eyelids: wants the bottom line – don’t talk too much or they’ll finish your sentences; impatient and when others are slower than themselves.

As seen on Jude Law, Sarah Harding of Girl’s Aloud

Looking for a career

If your New Year’s Resolution is to find a new job, then make sure you don’t blow your chances by committing one of the ‘eye sins’ below!

1. Looking left: can indicate lying. Looking right while you’re answering a question can indicate you’re truthful and trustworthy

2. Heavy blinking: More than 30-40 per minute denotes that you could have something to hide

3. Continued broken eye contact: can mean a lack of commitment and confidence

4. Red eyes: connotes lack of preparation

While the study is intended as a bit of fun, there has been much research conducted around personology.
“There is a lot of truth in the adage your eyes are windows to the soul. Just knowing a few key signifiers can really help you understand what people are thinking – especially if you want to achieve a New Year’s Resolution!”
