Dr Arun C. Gulani is passionately knocking down the walls of skepticism by delivering results that no longer limit KERATACONUS patients to a sentence of hard contacts and corneal transplants.
Over 20 years ago I was diagnosed with kerataconus during my physical for the Coast Guard Academy. The disease not only prevented me from joining the Academy, but it has limited my life. The constant squinting to see, the hassle of hard contacts that scratched the surface of my eyes, or popped out constantly, the pain when I even got sweat in my eyes.
The only future I was told that I would have would be cornea transplants. But now thanks to Dr. Gulani, I had the INTACS surgery on my right eye. When he took the bandage off my eye, the first thing I saw was how beautiful Mandy eyes really were. Before the surgery I only saw brown blurs for her eyes. Afterwards I saw numerous shades of brown with small parts of greens and blues. I couldn’t help but cry.
My eyesight is not perfect now, but it is much better than it was. Thank you Dr. Gulani for your passion and your compassion.
