Sometimes God puts people in your path to learn lessons, to be healed or to be saved or just help you live your life in light and not in darkness.

One day after losing hope I met Dr. Gulani.

Before I met him in person at his clinic, I saw some publicity articles in Jacksonville Magazine and on local TV station about his accomplishments as a world-famous eye surgeon. Great words, great presentation and a pleasant looking guy but was it for real? Was he the answer to my prayers to find a surgeon who has the guts to operate on my sick eyes?

After I met him I can say that words cannot express how amazing Dr. Gulani is. In my humble opinion I can say he was born too early for this century. As his vision, work and inventions are beyond our times. It is like he came from the future. Like Nikola Tesla was for his time. People couldn’t understand Tesla’s genius and his invention because he was too advanced for them.

My eyes were in bad shape due to cataracts and I was afraid one day I might lose my vision even though I was in my fifties and I had a feeling that I need to go to this famous eye surgeon and if he said that nothing can be done then I accept my fate.

But, Dr. Gulani looked at my eyes and without promising anything he accepted the challenge to fix my eyes. It was a complex case and no guarantees. I don’t know why but I was so confident that all was going to be ok. He inspired me he can be trusted.

He had to put in extra hours to prepare for my case and be able to perform the two complex eye surgeries with the attention to detail that is his trademark.

I have never seen a surgeon like him with so much patience, who educates the patients and his or her family, goes to battle for his patients, being compassionate, talking to you before surgery and shaking your hand or patting you on the shoulder as a symbol that everything is going to be ok, taking pictures with you and calling the patients personally a couple of hours after cataract surgery.

Who does that? He is one of a kind.

I am one of the proofs of the genius of this unique eye surgeon. He treats his patients with respect. His patients are not numbers or cookie cutters. His patients are people and each has his or her own story and situation. One size doesn’t fit everybody. He makes patients feel special with this very individual approach.

My favorite movie character is James Bond, Agent 007. I can compare now Dr. Gulani with James Bond because he is not afraid to tackle any complex eye surgery mission. He has the guts to fight for his patients even when the chances are low; he dares to challenge himself and the fate. He is “For Your Eyes Only,” our “Dr. No” to the cookie cutters, the “Golden Eye” of eye surgery.

Dr.Gulani is for the patient, not for fame, money or career. He is our hope. My eyes are not in the darkness because of him and for that I will be grateful all my life. Giving somebody light is a miracle, and Dr. Gulani is my miracle.
