I have worn mono contacts for 10 years. This last year I was having blurred vision in both eyes. I had them checked by an ophthalmologist who gave me a different prescription for each eye and still my eyes did not focus properly. After going back, I was told that I did have cataracts but they did not look bad enough to operate, but they would, the option was mine. I wasn’t concerned about the operation but about the impersonal way they presented this option to me, more matter of fact/routine. This was me, my eyes.
I felt that the examination and the test were conclusive enough for me to jump right into agreeing to this procedure. I wasn’t impressed with the doctors or the office. The second time I went back they could not find my file and did not know what contact prescriptions they had given to me, and they said I was wearing the mono in the reversed eye of the prescription I gave them. I had worn the right eye as distance and the left for reading for ten years and they were trying to tell me I had not seen right for ten years. After being at Mayo and their professional organized and personal way of treating me, I was very uncomfortable with this new doctor’s irresponsible way of handling me. My Mayo doctor had retired and I would have had to go to a new doctor. Thinking this was a routine eye exam, I chose a local doctor fifty minutes closer to me. My options now were to travel the distance to Mayo…Until…
After the experience about, I told my daughter, Natera Austin, who works as a surgical tech for many different eye surgeons of North East Florida. She told me about his superlative surgical skills that she witnessed compared to other eye surgeons and talked with me at length about Dr. Gulani and his practice.
She gave me the web site to visit and see for myself his accomplishments. Natera knew that I had been very satisfied with Mayo and each of their departments and that I was having a hard time with making this decision. After taking much time to go through all of Dr. Gulani’s web sites and digesting all of his attributes, my doubts were erased. I felt if he found that I needed the procedures then I would take his advice.
In this very modern office, the staff greets you with a warm welcoming. They call you by your first name, making you feel that they have known you for years. The wait has been minimal but while you wait you can further see and hear about the techniques of Dr. Gulani through the video, magazine and newspaper article. His staff is experienced in their jobs and provides him with your accurate results.
I totally trust him with my eye care. In the surgical center, he is admired by all the staff and is friendly and courteous to everyone. I knew I would be experiencing this procedure now, and again on the other eye at a later date. I think everyone has reservations at one time or another before such procedures and I was no different. My reservations came before I went to him so now I could just relax and let him do what he does best and that is to make perfect eyes. I felt his choice of surgical centers was added to his professionalism. IS HE NUMBER ONE? YES, TO THE WORLD, BUT TO ME IT COUNTS THE MOST.
My experience and Vision is now GREAT! I am a realtor and mortgage broker of many years. Contracts and documents are a big part of my job. My eyes for these past months have not been cooperative with my need. Today I can read without any glasses or contacts. I can see/go the distance the same. I owe it to the advice of my daughter and Dr. Gulani who more than measured up to her and my expectations.
Dr. Gulani’s skills I have addressed previously but I will always take the time to reiterate. His skills, not measured according to me but by other patients I have talked with, the staff at this office, the surgical center staff and the National and World recognition he has gained is totally untouched by another doctor. He is as professional, gracious and caring as anyone could hope to have care for them. He makes sure he has answered all of your questions to your satisfaction. Like his staff, he greets each one by name, first name. You are made to feel very welcome in his presence.
As for referring people to him, in one word, YES. I have already recommended him to friends and they have gone, leaving there feeling as I do. If I can go, anyone can. He does specialize in certain areas and if you should be out of his area of expertise, he will recommend you to a doctor that he, himself trusts.
