Dr.Gulani’s Motivation; His Patients!: #gulanibeyond2020
“If you’ve been told by all the doctors that “nothing can be done for your vision” Don’t Give Up! Just find the right Dr. 🙂
I was born with just about every eye disorder possible, including myopia (Nearsighted with -10), nystagmus (moving eyes), high irregular astigmatism, keratoconus (cone shaped cornea), and to make matters worse, I had a cornea transplant in my left eye about 10 years ago. Needless to say, every Dr I went to asking about LASIK, lens replacements, etc., the answer was always “No, your cornea is too _______ (thin, unstable, etc”. They really did not want to do anything risky or outside of the norm.
Luckily Dr Hoffman, my optometrist recommended I give Dr Gulani a call, he said he was more “progressive”.
What I really loved about Dr. Gulani is after an extensive examination and consultation, I asked if he had a procedure that would help me. He told me, “we don’t just recommend procedures, we create a Plan”…. and create a plan he did.
Instead of making excuses, he recommended a very complex procedure, and even started on my weakest eye (my left) that had the cornea transplant.
The procedure was done at Gulani Vision Institute’s state-of-the-art surgical suite. We did a refractive lens replacement (think of cataract surgery, but they had to use anesthesia to stop my eyes from moving). During the procedure, he also reshaped my cornea to remove much of my astigmatism (from -11.8 to -5.6).
Here I am today a week after Dr. Gulani performed his amazing surgery and I am already seeing like never before. I told Peggy this weekend that it was “so weird” to wake up and my left eye being able to see better than my right….
Dr. Gulani’s passion is contagious, and he and his awesome staff really treated Peggy and me like family. Somehow, he remembers every patient’s name, including their family, and really makes you feel like you are his only patient. He even personally called me at home to check on me.
The success of my left eye has me ready to move on to the next step with my right eye later in the year. Looking forward to seeing 20:20 in 2020.”
