“24 years ago I had RK surgery. The RK incisions never really healed and joined neighboring tissue through fibrous tissue distorting light. I had 16 incisions in each eye and to top it off they were crooked incisions. With the years the complications included susceptibility to infections, distortion and flattening of my cornea, weakening of the eye, and constantly changing vision that shifted from nearsightedness to farsightedness throughout the day. I had horrible night vision that resulted from night lights scattering at the radial cuts making driving at night impossible. This was made worse because my two eyes had very different prescriptions, one eye would see an object larger than the other eye. This would cause severe eye strain, headaches, and daily unsteadiness.
In the next few hours Dr. Arun C. Gulani will perform the seemingly impossible task of going through this broken window of an eye and insert a new refractive lens.
